Introduction

When you hear Holi you think about colours, music and unlimited delicious food. You are certainly right but there is much more to Holi, Holi is the festival of forgiveness, Holi is the festival of love, and Holi is the celebration of music, dance and culture. When is Holi in 2024? is the current question before us, Well this year Holi will be celebrated on 24 and 25 March. The Holika Dahan ritual will be done on 24 March, and the celebration of colours will be on 25 March.

Origin Of Holi

Holi is the celebration of the victory of good over evil, and Holi is the celebration of the victory of Devotion over pride. Holi festival origin story goes like there was a Demon King named Hiranyakashyapu who hated lord Vishnu, as Lord Vishnu was and still is the protector of Everyone. Hiranyakashyapu had a son named Prahalada, as he took birth in an Ashrama he became the biggest devotee ever of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashyapu loved his son as naturally every father does but he could not accept that his son is the devotee of his biggest rival.

Hiranyakashyapu tried to kill Prahalad many times but every time he was saved by almighty Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakshyapu got tired and felt helpless as he did not want to kill his son with his hands.

Hiranyakashyapu had a sister named Holika, she had a boon that no fire could harm her, so she offered to take Prahalad in her lap and sit in the fire, Hiranyakashyapu agreed and she sat in the burning fire with Prahalad in her lap, Prahalad was the biggest devotee of Lord Shree Hari Vishnu so he sat in the lap smiling and just chanting “ OM NAMO BHAGVATE VASUDEVAI” and hence Lord Vishnu saved his favourite Prahalad and Holika burnt to death in the Fire.

Now one may ask if Holika was immune to fire then how she could die in that, that is because boons are to serve people not to be used against them.

Since then Holi has been celebrated as the victory of love and devotion over hate and pride.
